The Englewood neighborhood of Chicago is known for its violence, drugs and deep urban poverty—it is listed as one of the worst crime areas in the entire country.  This is a community where babies die at four times the national rate and a high school education is the exception, rather than the rule.

The opportunity to plant a Life Center in Englewood came in the summer of 2000, when an old Catholic church complex became available.  Chris and Monica saw this as an opportunity to make a difference in the neediest area of Chicago--they purchased the complex and began renovations on the campus located at 5501 South LaSalle.

Life Center Chicago now provides:

  • Street, shelter and prison outreach
  • Emergency food assistance
  • Holiday outreach (Thanksgiving turkeys, Christmas gifts and Easter baskets)
  • Twice weekly worship services
  • Support groups for men, women and teens
  • Life Skills training school with transitional housing
  • Worknet Job training
  • Global University
  • Soon to come will be GED learning programs, a tutoring center and addiction recovery groups
